FAQ

Questions about cost, booking and the day you fly.

Short answers first. If yours is not here, put it in the notes of a quote request and your advisor will answer it.

Pricing

Why do two quotes for the same trip differ so much?

Mostly because of where the aircraft starts and how it gets home. An aircraft already near you avoids paying for empty repositioning flights, and its operator can price lower. Aircraft age, cabin and the operator's own costs account for the rest.

What is federal excise tax and do I pay it?

It is a 7.5% federal tax on domestic US air transportation, including charter. It appears in our all-in prices. There is also a federal segment fee of about $5 per passenger per leg, indexed each year. International trips have their own taxes and fees. The IRS publishes the rules.

Are one-way trips more expensive per hour?

Often, because the operator has to bring the aircraft home. Some one-ways are cheaper when an operator needs to reposition anyway; those are empty legs, typically discounted 25–75% with a fixed route and time.

What are daily minimums?

Many operators bill a minimum number of hours, often one or two, for each day the aircraft is assigned to your trip, including days it waits on the ground. They matter on multi-day trips, and your quote shows them.

Choosing how to fly

Is a jet card better than charter?

It depends on how much certainty you need. Cards fix the hourly rate and guarantee availability, usually at or above on-demand rates for the same jet. If your dates are flexible and you fly under about 25 hours a year, charter often costs less.

How many hours is a fractional share?

Programmes usually size shares from an 800-hour year, so a 1/16 share is about 50 hours, 1/8 about 100 and 1/4 about 200. You also pay a monthly management fee and an hourly fee for time flown.

Can I buy a single seat on a private jet?

Some companies sell seats on shared or scheduled private flights, and empty-leg seats are sometimes sold individually. The price is per seat and the schedule is theirs. With four or more travellers, chartering the whole aircraft is usually better value.

Booking and changes

Is my quote a booking?

No. A quote is an offer that depends on the aircraft still being available. Nothing is booked until you sign a charter agreement, which names the operating carrier, and pay under its terms.

What happens if I need to cancel?

Cancellation terms are set in the charter agreement and vary by operator and by how close to departure you cancel. We show the terms with each option so you can compare them before you book.

Can you arrange multi-city and international trips?

Yes. One-way, round-trip and multi-city itineraries worldwide. For international trips we plan around customs, permits and each country's equivalent of Part 135 operators.

On the day

How early should I arrive?

Most private terminals ask for 15 to 30 minutes before departure for domestic flights, longer when passports are checked. Your advisor confirms the exact time and the terminal address with your itinerary.

Are pets allowed on board?

Usually. A good share of aircraft accept animals once their operator agrees. Put the number and size of your pets in the request and the options we send will all allow them.

How much luggage can I bring?

It depends on the aircraft's baggage space and weight limits on the day. Soft bags pack more easily than hard cases. List skis, golf clubs or unusual items in your request and we will size the aircraft for them.
